Mesdames et messieurs, bienvenue au carnaval de l'aléatoire.
SEE THIS BUTTON HERE? If you value anything I've got to say, and would like to buy a girl a drink, or contribute to my tattoo fund:
After 4 years, the raison d'etre of this blog is to open a window into and out of my brain. (There's a lot of stuff crammed in there.)
Things that happen here: Political rants, thinky thoughts, some personal things, a lot of the SHINY, media criticism, kittens.
I am a geek, a pop-culture addict, an activist, a goddess of eclectica, a comics writer, a poet, a spoken-word performer, and while my day job is saving the world, you'll find a wide variety of the things that fall out of my head hear. There will be squee, grover-flailing, and pterodactyl screeching on occasion.
There is no question that our circumstances qualify as extraordinary and demand a laserlike focus by the president on job creation. At the pace of job growth we’ve seen over the past three months, we will never, not ever, reach normal levels of employment in America again. We know now that only 58 percent of American adults are employed, the lowest number in nearly three decades. We know that, as of last month, 6.2 million Americans have been out of work for more than six months. Forty-six million Americans are on food stamps, a national record.
I’ll add: As of this spring, 17 million people were living at HALF the poverty level.
