Daniel Tosh asked his viewers to film themselves groping women
At this point, you have probably heard of the controversy over Daniel Tosh’s recent stand up comedy show containing rape jokes. However, you may not not know that on his TV show this “light hearted” misogyny has been common for quite some time.
Over a year ago, Daniel Tosh hosted a segment on his show called “Lightly Touching Women’s Stomaches While They’re Sitting Down”. After showing a video in which Tosh touches several women without their consent, he encourages his male viewers to take similar videos and to post them on the internet. “But be careful, because they like to pretend like they don’t love it!”

Touching someone without their consent is not okay. It is assault. Touching someone in a sexual manner without their consent is sexual assault. The only thing that varies is degree. Abusing the fact that people are socialized not to confront violations of personal space, within certain boundaries does not mean you have consent. For example: if you reach out to shake someone’s hand and they don’t return the gesture, you wouldn’t grab their hand and forcibly shake it. They’ve already telegraphed that they don’t want to shake hands. So don’t touch people without implicit or explicit consent. And really don’t listen when a shit-stirring comedian tells you to do it, because it could get you arrested.
