Benedict Cumberbatch’s Star Trek 2 role revealed?
Ever since news of a sequel to Star Trek was announced, the rumour mill has continually been awash with speculation as to the identity of the villain in Star Trek 2…
Here’s why I’m not biting on this one:
1. The 2009 film wasn’t Abrams remaking any of the series or films of TOS. It was deliberately saying, “Hey, look: I’ve got a completely different universe now.” Abrams has made his own sandbox to play in. It may have the same species and some of the core people, but things are not the same.
2. Repeated denials from the production. It’s not that people won’t lie about stuff, trying to keep spoilers down, but they were pretty up-front when Cumberbatch was cast in the first place.
3. I have a personal issue with, “Unnamed sources.” It’s not like this is a whistle-blower case where keeping a source in your pocket is keeping them from being intimidated or killed. If you have a source that’s credible, go on the record. Otherwise, you risk being used in a campaign of gossip or deliberate misdirection. I know there’s a lot of competition for the hot stories, but seriously: If I can’t quote someone, I don’t want the story. Y’know whose credibility gets damaged if that story turns out to be wrong? Mine. No thanks, I’m not willing to do that.
I don’t trust IMdb cast info, because ANYBODY can change that and I’ve been burned more than once on that nonsense, and I don’t trust blind-items. Show me call sheet that says, “Khan,” and I’ll buy it. Until then, let’s just go back to normal and wait.
‘Nuff said?
