Reblogging because when we lose these touchstones with our history and culture, we lose something important for our humanity: the ability to remember. Without the ability to place ourselves within a context of remembrance of the past and hope for the future, the actions we take in the NOW are merely part of an aimless, disconnected tide. While I support being present in the moment philosophically, if we can’t see the footprints left behind, (perhaps those of a giant hound,) how do we judge the consequences and significance of what we may do or be or create?
Yes, I support the preservation of Undershaw. Not simply because of who lived there and what was created there, but because it is one of those places where all points of time meet. Here, we can see evidence of and imagine the past. Here, we are living in the moment as beings who have been affected by that past. Here, we are capable of imagining the future.
